Review: L'Oreal Volume Million Lashes Excess Mascara

Earlier this month I told you about one of my Boots hauls which included the L'Oreal Volume Million Lashes Excess Mascara. Now that I've been using it for a few weeks I thought I'd let you know how I'm getting on with it.

I was attracted to this mascara as I'd been thinking about buying Benefit They're Real due to the spiky plastic brush but this looked similar and at £10.99 as well as being included in the 3 for 2 deal I decided to go for this one.

The brush has loads of bristles and is amazing at separating the lashes. This is important to me as I hate it when mascaras make your lashes all clumpy! I chose the black version of this mascara which darkens my lashes nicely and makes my natural lashes look a lot fuller. I never wear fake lashes as the thought of gluing my eyelashes together scares me so I like to use mascara to create more volume.

Without mascara

The mascara is also excellent at lengthening the lashes as I'm sure you can tell from looking at my photos! It has great staying power and doesn't rub off throughout the day so no panda eyes or mascara flakes for me! I also like when you put it on, it's not too wet so it doesn't take ages to dry or smudge all over your eyeshadow.

After using L'oreal Volume Million Lashes Excess Mascara

I really like this mascara as I can wear less coats for a more subtle office friendly look or go wild for a glamourous night time look. I don't need multiple mascaras for different uses!

At £10.99 it's cheaper than a high end mascara but it's on the pricey side for a drugstore mascara. I would say it's worth the price tag and I would fully recommend it.

Have you tried this mascara? What is your favourite mascara?

Christmas Beauty Gifts - My Top Picks

It really starts to feel like Christmas for me once Boots bring out their Christmas gift guide and stock the shelves full of lovely gift sets. I always find lots of gifts I would like for myself more than anyone else! Haha.

I thought I'd put together a post of my favourite gift sets available this year. Maybe it will give some ideas of pressies to buy for your loved ones or more than likely, it will increase the size of your own wishlist ;)

Benefit Cosmetics Sexy Little Stowaways £25.00 (Image - Benefit Cosmetics)

As always, Benefit Cosmetics have some fab sets out this year. I love their mini kits as they give you a chance to try out a range of their products without splashing out on the full sizes. My favourite this year is the Sexy Little Stowaways set. I've tried a few of these products before but most of them are new to me and I would love to give them a go.

Origins Mask Trio £29.00 (Image - John Lewis)

I've noticed Origins seem to do some great value sets and this one is my favourite. It's a Mask Trio containing 75ml versions of Clear Improvement, Out of Trouble and Drink Up masks. I've been wanting to try Origins masks for a while so this would be a great chance to try three for just over the price of one full sized one.

Clinique Whole Lotta Colour £30.00 (Image - John Lewis)
The crayon style lip balm/sticks have been popular this year and this Clinique set is the perfect opportunity to try their version - Chubby Sticks. There is a good choice of colours in this mini set of five sticks and I'd love to own this.

Prada Candy 50ml Perfume Gift Set £53.00 (Image - Debenhams)

This Prada Candy perfume was released last year and I actually bought myself a gift set as I absolutely love it. It's an extremely sweet fragrance but it's luxurious rather than cheap. If you want to smell like vanilla and caramel, you need this!

Laura Mercier Signature Collection for Face, Eyes and Lips £50.00 (Image - John Lewis)

I would quite like to try some more Laura Mercier make up after trying their Tinted Moisturiser this summer and this set seems like a brilliant way to try a range of products. It's the Laura Mercier Signature Collection for Face, Eyes and Lips. This set is full of exclusive, generous sized products so it's worth a look if you're into Laura Mercier.

I could probably go on forever listing all of the gifts I'd like to receive for Christmas but I'm going to leave it here as I may need to take out a bank loan if extend my wishlist any further.

I just wanted to finish off with a little tip. Every week in the run up to Christmas, Boots sell one of their more expensive gift sets at around half price. Hint - it's often the sets that have a full page spread in the gift guide! This week they are selling the 17 Ultimate Collection for £17.00 instead of £35.00 which is a pretty good deal. They update the offer each Friday so it's worth checking the website each week to see what's on offer.

Have you started Christmas shopping? Is your Christmas wishlist getting bigger by the day?

NOTD - Essie Cute as a Button

I bought a couple of Essie nail polishes a few weeks ago in the 3 for 2 deal at Boots and I got round to trying this one a few nights ago.

The photo shows my nails painted with two coats of Cute as a Button. As usual the polish is great quality and the wide brush makes it so easy to paint your nails quickly and evenly.

Before I left the house wearing this polish, I would have described it as a milky orange with a hint of peach. Once I arrived at work it looked quite different! It looked more of a red based orange, a coral sort of shade. It must have been my lighting at home! Thankfully it has turned out more on the red side for these photos.

The more of these Essie polishes I buy, the more I want! Two that are most certainly on my wishlist are Mint Candy Apple and Watermelon.

What is your favourite Essie polish and which ones are on your wishlist?

More Boots 3 for 2 Purchases

The other day I saw on Twitter that some people were getting Dr Jart+ BB Cream in their October GlossyBox. This made me resubscribe immediately as I've been wanting to try some of their BB cream ever since I swatched it in Boots and saw that it seemed great quality and might be light enough for my pale skin!

I still haven't received my GlossyBox but I logged into my account to see which products I'm going to receive and the Dr Jart+ BB Cream isn't on the list. I was pretty disappointed but I'm still looking forward to trying the products I am getting.

When I found out I wasn't getting the Dr Jart+ BB Cream, I took to Twitter to express my disappointment and got into conversation with the people running the Dr Jart+ Twitter account who informed me that Dr Jart+ is included in the current 3 for 2 offer on skincare at Boots. I'm glad they mentioned this as I wasn't aware Dr Jart+ was included but my bank account is looking worse by the day! So much for no more shopping this month!

I'd actually been interested in the skincare as well as the BB Cream so this was the perfect opportunity to try those products I've been lusting after.

So lets see what I bought...

There are 4 types of BB Cream ranging from £18.00 to £24.00. I went for the Platinum version which costs £22.00 and seemed like the lightest shade. It's also got SPF 30 which is a massive bonus since I want to keep my super fair skin protected.

Recently I've been toying with the idea of buying Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask after reading rave reviews but I decided to go for this Water-Max Sleeping Mask instead. It seems like the same sort of idea and I liked the sound of it when I read the packaging. This mask is free from GMO, Mineral Oil, Talc and Pigments. It's also suitable for all skin types. My skin tends to be quite dehydrated and I can imagine it getting quite dry as the weather gets colder so I think this will be a great treat to use a few times a week.

My third product is the Water-Sure Gel which also seems ideal for hydrating my skin. Again this is also free from the 4 nasties mentioned above and it's a refreshing oil-free gel moisturiser. I love the little spatula you get for this so you don't need to dip your fingers in the pot every time you use it. It's so much more hygienic! At £26.00 for 50ml this is cheaper than the moisturisers I generally buy so I'm interested to see how this compares.

Once I've had a chance to try these products out I'll post some reviews on my blog so watch out for those :)

If you like Dr Jart+ or are interested in trying their products you should follow them on Twitter as they seem really helpful.
Have you been treating yourself to any goodies in the Boots 3 for 2 offer? Let me know in the comments.

Review: Jergens Original Beauty Lotion Cherry-Almond Body Moisturiser

I recently received a bottle of the new Jergens Original Beauty Lotion* to try out and I wanted to share my thoughts on this launch.

The stand out selling point of this product for me is the scent. It is a gorgeous cherry almond scent that smells exactly like cherry bakewells! I love cherry bakewells and the package I received for this product was amazing! It contained lots of cherry almond goodies - cherry bakewells, sugared almonds and cherry drops. It was such a fun idea!

Not only does this product leave your skin smelling good enough to eat, it also provides a great deal of moisturisation which lasts for a long time. I really enjoy slathering myself in this non greasy moisturiser before bed as your skin is super soft when you wake up. I actually end up sitting in bed stroking my skin as it amazes me how soft and smooth it is! I've noticed the softness lasts even after having my morning shower which is excellent as I don't tend to have time to apply moisturiser before work.

I would definitely recommend this body moisturiser as it's a pleasure to use due to the delicious scent and I prefer the squeezy bottle compared with tub style pots as it's easier to dispense.

You can pick this 200ml bottle up for around £3.49 which is an absolute steal and I've just noticed it's available as part of the Boots 3 for 2 deal at the moment so it's the perfect time to stock up!

Have you tried Jergens before? Will you be trying this body moisturiser?

P.S. Jergens are holding a great Facebook competition at the moment where you can win prizes such as a designer handbag or a set of their moisturisers. Check it out here if you're interested.

*This product was kindly sent for review purposes. My opinion is in no way influenced by this and I am always 100% honest.

NOTD - Breast Cancer Awareness Day

Last Friday at work we had a Breast Cancer Awareness Day to raise money for breast cancer charities. There were lots of yummy cakes to buy and we were asked to wear something pink.

I decided my "something pink" would be nail polish so I went for a pink glittery look using two coats of Barry M Strawberry Ice Cream with one layer of Topshop Adrenalin on top.

I think it's a really nice girly look and I enjoyed wearing this combo on my nails.

What have you been wearing on your nails lately?

Marie Claire Freebies

You've probably seen this posted on other blogs by now but thought I'd post it just in case you haven't :)

With this month's Marie Claire magazine you get a free 30ml L'occitane Hand Cream. You can choose from 4 different kinds - regular Shea Butter or one of the limited edition Shea Butters in Rose Petals, Mango Flower or Date Bouquet. I went for Mango Flower as I love mango so hopefully it will be nice. I really like L'occitane hand creams as they are super moisturising but don't leave your hands greasy.

You also get a second free gift this month in the form of a travel size bottle of Dove Colour Radiance Express Treatment. I'm looking forward to trying this as I bought the Intensive Repair version as part of last weekend's haul and I'm enjoying using it.

The magazine is £3.70 so it's worth it for the hand cream alone. I'm sure I'll enjoy reading the magazine too though.

Which hand cream would you prefer? Have you picked up this great freebie?

Weekend Haul

Last weekend I decided to go shopping as I fancied a bit of a spending spree. I left Boots, John Lewis and Lush £90 lighter and here's what I bought...

Lush have their Christmas items in-store now and I wanted everything! I limited myself to three products though. I had to buy some Snow Fairy Shower Gel as it's the perfect sweet scent and I buy it every year. I noticed a new shower gel called Ponche which contains orange juice, plum, cinnamon and tequila! It's a very fresh and fruity, bright orange shower gel that I really like. It's quite different to what I would normally go for so I'm glad I tried it.

I also bought a lip scrub in the flavour Popcorn. I've bought one before in "Bubblegum" and that one was so sweet like Snow Fairy which I loved but I've got a thing for salted caramel at the moment so Popcorn is a very welcome treat.

I picked up some Dove Intensive Repair Express Treatment as it was on offer for less than £2 and I was running low on conditioner. I like using a thick conditioner/hair mask so I like the idea of the express treatment as I hate waiting! The Bumble and Bumble Sunday shampoo has been on my wishlist for some time now (I blame Anna at Vivianna Does Makeup!) and I finally decided to pick it up. It's expensive at £15.50 but at least you can buy it at Boots now and pick up some Advantage Points!

The Ojon Volume Advance range has also been on my wishlist so I picked up a travel size version of the shampoo and conditioner so I could try it out. There's actually a really good deal on the Boots website which I'm wishing I saw before I bought those mini bottles. If you spend £20 on Ojon you get a free full size Volume Advance Shampoo and Conditioner for free! I'm still tempted but I really shouldn't be spending any more money this month.

Another great deal at Boots is their mix and match 3 for 2 deal on make up and other beauty accessories which I blogged about the other day. As soon as I saw Essie nail polish was included I had to get some. I would have loved to buy Mint Candy Apple but there weren't any left so I went with two others that I have lusted over - Peach Daiquiri and Cute as a Button.

I fancied a new mascara so I went for the L'oreal Volume Million Lashes Excess in Black. This features one of those spiky plastic brushes in the style of the Benefit Get Real mascara which I'd been thinking about buying so thought this might be a good, cheaper alternative.

John Lewis

I only made one purchase in John Lewis. I needed a new bottle of Cleanse and Polish so I headed straight for the Liz Earle counter. I saw a stand advertising the new version featuring rose and lavender in 150ml size with two muslin cloths for around £20. I really fancied buying this version and walked a bit further and saw a nice presentation box for £19.75 for the 150ml cleanse and polish with two muslin cloths which stated "Limited Edition" so I happily picked this up and bought it assuming it was the rose and lavender version. It was only when I got home I realised it was just the regular version and it was probably the 150ml size which made it Limited Edition. D'oh!

So that's the end of my haul and it's hopefully the last haul of the month! What have you been buying lately? Feel free to post any links to your blogs/YouTube videos :)

Jergens Original Beauty Lotion

I've been sent some information about a new product launch by Jergens. Their latest product is called Original Beauty Lotion and it's a body moisturiser with a soothing mix of moisturising ingredients to give dry, dehydrated skin a well needed moisture boost.

Jergens Original Beauty Lotion has a unique blend of nourishing and softening emollients to moisturise the skin for 24 hours.
This product comes with their signature cherry-almond scent which I think sounds so delicious. It actually sounds like my perfect scent for a body lotion. I would definitely love to try this moisturiser.

When I've been reading a bit more about Jergens, I particularly like the fact that they not only want your skin to feel good but to look great as well.

The new Jergens Original Beauty Lotion Body Moisturiser costs around £3.49 for 200ml.

Jergens are also holding a great competition on their Facebook page at the moment where you have the chance to win a designer bag, scarf, shoes or a set of their moisturisers. Here is a link to the page if you would like to enter.

Have you tried Jergens products? Will you be reaching for this new moisturiser? Let me know your thoughts :)

Boots 3 for 2 Deal

I did a bit of shopping last weekend and took advantage of this fab deal at Boots so thought I'd share it with you.

Image from

Make up and other beauty accessories are on 3 for 2 at the moment. This is a mix and match deal which is great as you don't have to buy each item from the same brand.

Also this deal gets better... it includes Essie! I think this is great and I picked up a few polishes. I'll probably post about my haul at the weekend when I have the internet installed in my new flat.

Real Techniques brushes are included in the offer so this could be the perfect opportunity to splash out on some brushes. I am definitely tempted!

Are you planning any Boots purchases? Let me know :)
