What I've been using up lately: Empties #4

It's been three months since my last 'empties' post so I've accumulated quite a few empty bottles since then! It's time to dish the dirt on what I've been using up.

As always, it's shower products that I've used the most of in this post. I was very lucky to win a set of five Imperial Leather Shower Gels/Creams from Lucy over on Beauty and the Blogger so I've enjoyed using these up. They are all very thick and lather up nicely so they lasted around 2 weeks each. Due to their creamy texture, they don't strip the skin of moisture at all which I always like in a shower product. They have some lovely fragrances too. My favourites were Citrus Burst; a gorgeous lime and kiwi scented gel and Oriental Calm; a slightly spicy aroma with cherry blossom and vanilla bean in the cream format. I would definitely purchase these again being only £2 or less from Boots.

One of the other shower gels I used up is the Soap & Glory Whipped Clean Luxe Cream Wash Shower Butter. At £8.00 from Boots, this is more of a treat body wash but I think it's worth every penny. It's very softening on the skin with it's cocoa and shea butters along with various oils so it's not too bad if you skip the moisturiser after showering with this. It smells divine too with it's pistachio, almond and vanilla scent. This is the second bottle I've used up and I've got a third one ready to use as I received one for my birthday! The fiance knows me so well.

The Philosophy Christmas Cookie 3 in 1 shampoo, shower gel and bubble bath was a cheap purchase I spotted after Christmas in the sales so I had to pick it up. It smells really nice but I've mentioned before on my blog that I actually get really bored of these 480ml sized bottles as I constantly like to try new products. I was forcing my fiance to use this up with me so I could move on to something else!

I think I picked up the Ted Baker Body Spray whilst it was on a 3 for 2 offer as I didn't know what else to get but I really enjoyed using this product. It has quite a spicy, sexy fragrance consisting of rose, sandalwood, raspberry and vanilla that I sometimes used in place of perfume. There's something rather refreshing about using a body spray especially when it's hot and you can spritz yourself with a cool mist of fragrance.

I picked up the travel size version of the Umberto Giannini Incredible Body Volume Conditioner for Big Hair for my Amsterdam trip along with the matching shampoo (haven't quite used that up yet). I didn't think much of this conditioner to be honest. It provided a little bit of moisture to my hair and didn't weigh it down but that's as far as it goes. It certainly didn't make my hair big or anything!

Probably a bit of a weird one but I swear by Mitchum Advanced Control Anti-Perspirant so I'm forever buying these. My favourite scent is Pure Fresh as, well, it smells fresh! Other anti-perspirants such as Sure aren't strong enough for me but this is perfect. They last me ages as well which is great considering I often pick them up on a 2 for £4 deal at Boots!

A while back I fell for the Bioderma hype and was left feeling a bit disappointed. I don't often wear a full face of makeup so was mainly using the Bioderma Micellar Water for eye makeup removing purposes. I didn't really feel like it did a good job at easily removing this makeup. When I was on the market for a new eye makeup remover to replace my usual No7 Eye Makeup Remover, I spotted the L'Oreal Skin Perfection 3 in 1 Purifying Micellar Solution. At a small fraction of the price of Bioderma, I decided to buy this and I'm really glad I did. I've found a new favourite makeup remover in this product. It removes all of my eye makeup with ease and it's only £4.99. I've also tested it on a full face of makeup and it performs really well. I've already repurchased this and got it even cheaper as it was on offer. Thanks again Boots!

The sachet of Amie Spring Clean Cooling Clay Mask was from a beauty box I won from Gemma at Flutter and Sparkle around Christmas time. To be honest, I didn't expect great things from this mask with it being a cheapy but I loved it. I really liked the scent, it was like lime ice pops! It left my skin feeling clean, refreshed and surprisingly it didn't dry it out as I expected it would with it being a clay mask. I would definitely pick up more of these.

I bought the Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip Balm whilst in Paris last year (May 2012) so it lasted me really well as I used it most days. I think this is one of the only lip balms I've ever finished so that proves how much I like it! It has the most beautiful citrus scent and it's quite a thick balm that provides moisture like no other. Seriously, since this ran out my lips just haven't been the same no matter what other products I use. It's quite expensive for a lip balm at £9.50 but I must have decided to repurchase at the right time as I've managed to get a bargain from the Nuxe site and only paid just over £5.00!

I tried a sample of the REN Hydra-Calm Cleansing Milk and whilst I thought it was a nice product, I wasn't super duper impressed with it. It had a nice herbal scent and left my skin feeling soft after use but I wasn't blown away with the results so I won't be repurchasing this. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it though.

The Body Shop Chocomania Body Butter was a fun product to try as it smells so good! It has a really sweet chocolately scent and it moisturises the skin nicely without leaving it too greasy. I would definitely like to try this again in the future but for now I have the strawberry one to keep using up!

I've declared my love in the past for Elemis toners. They are the best toners I've ever used and I must have repurchased them around 5 times now. My favourite is the Apricot one but I enjoyed using the Rehydrating Ginseng one as a change. I love the way they have a spray dispenser so you can spray directly on to the face to cool your skin down or spray on to a cotton pad and sweep across the face. They are alcohol free so are kind to the skin and they are a nice extra cleansing step before my moisturiser. They really prepare my skin to absorb all of the moisture I'm about to give them!

I bought some products from the Superdrug Naturally Radiant range as I'd seen a few bloggers raving about them. They were really cheap so I wasn't expecting too much but I actually quite enjoyed using the Brightening Hot Cloth Cleanser. It's pretty much like the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish as it is a cream cleanser that you rinse off with a muslin cloth and it had the same softening effects on my skin. I did actually notice a brightening effect on the skin too. My skin looked a lot clearer and my spots were reduced. The bad thing I noticed was that it had a cheap men's aftershave type of scent to it! Overall it's a decent cleanser but I prefer the luxurious Elemis Cream Cleanser but to be fair, there is a massive difference in price so thumbs up to Superdrug for producing this.

I won't say too much about the Elemis Gentle Rose Exfoliator as I have a full review here but I really loved this exfoliator for it's gentle formula but powerful results. It's pricey but it's worth it for some extra pampering when you need it.

The No7 Eye Makeup Remover has been a staple in my skincare collection for years as I'm often picking up another one when Boots are giving out the £5.00 off No7 vouchers. As I mentioned above I've recently replaced this with the L'Oreal Micellar Water but I still think this is a fab product. It has quite an oily formula that is great for sweeping off tough mascara and leaving the skin quite nourished. I will never say never to repurchasing this in the future.

The final empty is a sample of the Vichy Normaderm Tri-Active Cleanser I received in a GlossyBox. This was a pretty generous sample at 50ml so it gave me a good chance to see how I felt about this one. The Normaderm range is targetted at spotty skin and I haven't really bought a product like that for years as they tend to strip the skin and leave it very dry so I was plesantly surprised when I discovered this product isn't like that at all. In fact it's very gentle and the packaging says it's suitable for sensitive skin. This product can be used as a cleanser, exfoliator or mask and I've used it as all three. I think it does a great job at helping get rid of spots and it really leaves the skin feeling clean and smooth. I would use this again in the future but I probably won't repurchase it at the moment as I like trying new things too much!

Well that was a long post! What have you been using up lately?

  1. Chocomania is one of my favourite scents from The Body Shop, I have just got the L'Oreal Micellar Solution and I can't wait to try it x

    1. Mmm it's good isn't it?! Ah the Micellar Solution is really good, I'm sure you'll love it! xx

  2. I'd never fancied trying Vichy - not sure why but it just didn't appeal - but yesterday I picked up their Normaderm micellar solution and am pleasantly surprised. It's nice to find one that is aimed specifically at problem skin, which mine currently is :(
I am seriously going to have to order myself some more bits from Elemis - so far I've only tried their bath milk, which is amazing, and their Tri-Enzyme mask, which personally I didn't like - but most people seem to love it. I really like the sound of their toners and masks though.
    Mel xx

    1. Ooh that sounds good, glad you're liking it so far then :) It's awful when you have skin trouble, hope it's helping :)

Ahhh I love Elemis so much! I wish I could own all of their products! xx
