Updated blog sale!

You know the drill by now! I've updated my blog sale with all of these lovely products. Click here if you fancy a browse :)

Cult Beauty Purchases

I've been trying not to browse beauty websites too much lately since I'm meant to be trying to save as much money as possible but sometimes when you get an email about a special offer or a product back in stock you end up going straight on the website for browse. Yep, the Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit in Light/Medium that has been sold out for ages came back in stock and at first (for about 5-10 minutes!) I decided not to buy it. I just shared the news on Instagram for anyone who's been looking to get their hands on it.

I actually bought the contour kit back in November but when I needed to free up some money a few months ago, I decided to sell it as I hadn't used it yet. I kept seeing it on blogs though and it made me want it again!

I didn't have any specific contour products in my makeup collection and I had a Real Techniques Bold Metals Flat Contour Brush that hadn't been used yet so I decided to go for it. Again!

I am looking forward to trying this kit as it looks like a good one and I like the shades but I don't tend to experiment much so I need to make time to use this properly!

I think you can all guess why I bought the Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Mask... If Anna (Vivianna Does Makeup) raves about (or even mentions something to be honest!) I'm going to want need it! I've tried a Peter Thomas Roth mask before and loved it so I knew despite the expensive price tag it should be pretty good anyway!

The mask is scented with spices like cinnamon and actually reminds me of carrot cake, yummy! It's a unique mask as far as my current collection is concerned as it's an enzyme mask that contains actual exfoliating particles too. It's like a scrub combined with a mask.

When you spend over £40 on Cult Beauty you get to pick a couple of samples so I picked the Omorovicza Gold Night Drops and the Aesop Fabulous Face Oil. I thought these sounded very luxurious and perfect for a little pamper evening.

Do you end up getting sucked into making purchases when one of your favourite retailers sends out their marketing emails?!

My current obsession with cream eyeshadows!

I've massively been into wearing cream eyeshadows recently. They are just so easy to swipe on with your finger and blend out. They are long lasting and can even be used as an eyeshadow primer to make powder eyeshadow last longer and look more intense.

I think the fact that I've been buying some of the Max Factor and Maybelline ones lately has sparked my interest in these again.

L-R: Maybelline Colour Tattoo Leather Effect in Chocolate Suede, Maybelline Colour Tattoo in Permanent Taupe, Maybelline Colour Tattoo in On and On Bronze, Maybelline Colour Tattoo Leather Effect in Creamy Beige, Bourjois Color Edition 24H Eyeshadow in Petale de Glace, MAC Paint Pot in Vintage Selection, MAC Paint Pot in Bare Study and Max Factor Excess Shimmer in Copper
L-R: Maybelline Color Tattoo in Pink Gold, Maybelline Color Tattoo in Metallic Pomegranate, Bourjois Color Edition 24H Eyeshadow in Prune Nocturne, Max Factor Excess Shimmer in Pink Opal, Max Factor Excess Shimmer in Pearl, Maybelline Color Tattoo in Infinite White and MAC Paint Pot in Lets Skate

The Maybelline Color Tattoos are fairly similar to MAC Paint Pots. Not in shade range but in consistency. They have the same firm-ish yet creamy texture. The Max Factor Excess Shimmers have a bit more of a mousse like texture but apply just like a cream eyeshadow. The Bourjois Color Edition 24H Eyeshadow are a cream to powder consistency, making them the most unique in my collection.

I love that I have a good range of neutrals, a few pretty Spring pastels and some darker Autumnal colours. My most used ones lately have been the Max Factor Excess Shimmer in Copper as an all over eyeshadow colour and the Maybelline Color Tattoos in Creamy Beige and Permanent Taupe as eyeshadow primers.

What I'm loving this week #1

I tend to buy a lot of products but I don't always write about them on my blog. I generally end up using my blogging time to let you know about my latest hauls! I've decided to try and write a weekly post about the products I've been loving so that I can share my thoughts on more of the products I've been using. I'll try and get a collection going of my disappointing products too as I'm sure you want to hear about those as well.

L'Oreal Paris Elvive Extraordinary Oil Nourishing Shampoo and Conditioner - I bought these as a bit of a substitute for the Bumble and bumble Hairdresser's Invisible Oil shampoo and conditioner I wanted since I can't really be spending £50 on a shampoo and conditioner at the moment. They sounded kind of similar I guess as the L'Oreal ones contain 6 micro flower oils and the Bumble and bumble ones contain 6 featherlight oils.

I wasn't sure how I'd get on with these as I have fine hair that quickly gets greasy in the roots however I've been absolutely loving them. They don't weigh the hair down at all, they just leave it feeling really smooth, nourished and clean. I even feel like my hair isn't as greasy by the end of the day when I've been using these. I really like the scent of them too. I bought them when they were half price but I wouldn't mind paying the full price of around £4 per bottle for them as they are so nice.

Philosophy Fresh Cream Eau de Toilette - I love this scent so much! I'm a massive lover of very sweet scents so this hits the spot perfectly. It smells like vanilla and a little bit of chocolate almost. It's sweet without smelling like it's aimed at a younger age range. I find this really long lasting too so I often catch a smell of it throughout the day and it puts a smile on my face!

Bourjois Rouge Edition Aqua Laque in 02 Rose on the Rocks - I've been loving this new glossy version of the Bourjois Rouge Editions. It's nicely pigmented with a glossy finish that isn't sticky at all. This shade is so nice as it adds a bit of a rosy colour but is still natural looking. I find that it leaves a bit of a stain behind once the glossiness has worn off which I quite like.

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara - You will probably recognise the miniature version of the Benefit Roller Lash Mascara from last month's Elle magazine. I love it when you get a good freebie like that! The mascara has been designed to separate, lift and curl the lashes for up to 12 hours. The brush is slightly curved which is a great shape for tucking it right into the root of your lashes. I find this is great at separation, curling and lifting. My lashes look much longer when I use this too. I don't have any problems with smudging or flaking but I wouldn't say the curl lasts for 12 hours on me. It's definitely one of the best mascaras I've tried and I'd be tempted to buy the full sized one. I do like to flit between different mascaras though so it might be a while before I consider buying it!

Avene Gentle Toner - I've found this to be great as a final cleansing step in my routine and it helps my moisturiser to sink in quickly. It's very gentle as the name suggests and it doesn't dry out my skin at all.

Avene Hydrance Rich Hydrating Cream SPF20 - I like to use a moisturiser with SPF in it when it gets round to Spring/Summer so that aspect of the product is exactly what I needed. Despite having 'rich' in the name, I don't find it too rich! I have dry, dehydrated skin and this sinks in quickly after application and doesn't feel heavy or greasy. It is fine under makeup too.

Origins Original Skin Renewal Serum with Willowherb - I'm really enjoying using this new serum from Origins. It feels like a light gel-cream texture and it sinks into the skin extremely fast, leaving it feeling very smooth. It feels very lightweight so once it is absorbed, you no longer feel it on the skin. It also feels quite refreshing to use. It's been helping to add some much needed hydration into my skin and it hasn't caused any breakouts whilst I've been using it so far.

MAC Cinderella Stroke of Midnight Eyeshadow Palette - I've been loving this palette as I've found the shades are great for every day wear, they are really blendable and long lasting. My favourite combination has been Satin Taupe all over the lid, Quarry in the crease and Phloof! as an inner corner highlight. These three shades are all available in the regular eyeshadow line if you're interested in them since the palette was limited edition and sold out immediately.

Hope you like the sound of my weekly feature :)

Boots Haul - Origins, Avene, YSL, Nails Inc and more

Whilst I was feeling a little too spendy last week when I had a few days off work, I ended up making quite a few purchases of things I've had my eye on recently in Boots.

Skincare wise, I've been using quite a lot of samples lately so decided it was time to get some proper products back in my routine. It was 3 for 2 on skincare so I decided to try some things from Avene. I picked up the Gentle Toner, Gentle Purifying Scrub and the Hydrance Optimale UV Riche. My skin has been feeling so dry and dehydrated lately I thought I'd keep things quite simple with products that are good for sensitive skin. I've tried the toner and moisturiser and I am loving them so far.

I saw the Nails Inc NailKale Illuminator on a blog in the last few weeks and really liked the look of it. It's like a milky, pearlescent shade that appears to make the nails look really pretty and healthy without too much effort or maintenance. I haven't tried this yet but I'm really looking forward to seeing what it's like.

I'm a big lover of cream cakes (and anything else sweet and unhealthy!) so when I started seeing the Philosophy Fresh Cream fragrance popping up on blogs I was very intrigued. The day before this haul I spotted it and had a little spray of it. All day, I couldn't stop smelling my hand, it was sooo nice. It's very sweet, creamy, vanilla-ry and almost a little chocolate-like. This is without it smelling cheap or like it's for kids. It's basically perfect for me! My ideal scent! I find this to be very long wearing too.

The Origins Original Skin Renewal Serum with Willowherb was a complete impulse purchase. I hadn't heard a lot about this product yet but when I tried it on my hand I loved it. I like that it's designed for my age group (I'm 30 in July! Scary!) rather than being something aimed at teenage skin or mature skin. It's been designed to boost the overall skin quality including blurring imperfections, smooth the skin, refine pores, etc. I've been using it since the weekend and I'm very impressed so far. My skin does feel really smooth and the texture has improved. Obviously it's early days though so I haven't seen any improvements to blemishes or pores yet.

I had a few £5 off No7 vouchers to use up so I decided to try some cleansers as the Melting Gel Cleanser and Cleansing Balm sound exactly like the kind of cleansers I like for my dry, dehydrated skin but at a reduced price! Only £9.50 each. I haven't tried these yet as I'm going to use up my current cleanser first but I'd love it if I've found something amazing!

My most exciting purchase comes in the form of a beautiful YSL product I've been desperate to buy ever since I laid eyes on it a few weeks ago. It's the Touche Eclat Blur Primer that has been designed to blur and illuminate. It contains tiny little gold flecks and it's a really interesting looking product. I swatched this several times whilst in town and every time it left my hand super soft and smooth. I've tried it once but as I mentioned before, I've been having a few skin issues so haven't given it a proper test yet.

What do you think of my purchases?
Have you bought anything good lately?

New finds at Superdrug

I spotted some new products that I hadn't heard about before on a trip to Superdrug a few days ago so I obviously had to pick them up!

Rimmel have recently changed their Lasting Finish foundations so it looks like they have released a primer and concealer to go with them.

The Lasting Finish Skin Perfecting Primer claims to extend wear of foundation for up to 8 hours as well as minimising the look of pores, evening skin tone and providing endless comfort. I would describe this as a thick white lotion that has a smoothing feeling on the skin. It doesn't feel like silicone, it's more like a moisturiser. I really like the feeling of this. I have tried it once on my face and I did feel like my foundation went on a lot smoother. I need to try this more before I can develop more of an opinion on it though.

I was excited by the Lasting Finish Concealer as it felt so creamy when I swatched it. I bought the shade Porcelain which is quite a good match for my skin tone, maybe slightly darker but blends out fine. It can be used for covering dark circles, redness and blemishes. As with the primer, I've tried this once and found it to work quite well at covering those flaws but I'm still trying to work out whether it's best with a brush or fingers. I'm kind of thinking a combination of both! I did find it a little drying but I am suffering with super dry skin at the moment so I'm not blaming the concealer just yet!

I've developed a bit of an interest in the L'Oreal Color Riche Lipsticks lately after adding a few to my collection so I was really excited when I saw they had expanded their shade range and even included a few matte shades! My photo really isn't doing the shades any justice. They are much better in real life. Flamingo (136) is a gorgeous pinky nude shade in the original formula, VIP (228) is a gorgeous matte red that isn't as bright and dark as it looks in my photo. (You can probably see the colours better in my Instagram photo here!) Finally I picked up the other matte called Androgyne (130) a dusky rose shade.

My most exciting find of the day was the Bourjois Rouge Edition Aqua Laque collection! After the success of their Velvet ones they must have decided to bring out a glossy version. There were 6 shades to choose from and I chose the more muted shades. They had some gorgeous bold red and pink shades too though. Looking on the Superdrug website has revealed a further 2 shades so it appears there are actually 8 shades!

01 Appechissant is a deep dusky pink, 02 Rose on the rocks is a lighter rosy pink and 03 Babe idole is a brigher, more coral toned pink. They are all really pretty and have a good amount of pigmentation.

What do you think of my new finds?
Are you planning to purchase any of these?

MAC Cinderella Collection

I didn't have any plans to pick up anything from the MAC Cinderella collection. Sure, I thought the products looked really nice and I loved the pretty blue and gold packaging, but I'm supposed to be saving.

Well, my long weekend that I booked off work only went and coincided with the launch of this collection into MAC stores didn't it?!!

There I was, just after 9am this morning queuing, yes queuing(!) at the MAC counter to see what goodies I could pick up. I honestly didn't expect there to be a massive queue at both counters within Fenwicks and I felt more and more anxious as products started selling out whilst I was waiting.

I'd already decided that I wanted both lipglosses, both lipsticks and the eyeshadow palette. Unfortunately only two of those products were available by the time I got served. I feel bad for all of the people who maybe planned to go after work as there would have been NOTHING left.

My favourite purchase was the Stroke of Midnight eyeshadow palette. I don't own any normal MAC eyeshadows, only the cool neutral palette so it was good to get some of their classic shades like Omega, Phloof! and Satin Taupe. They are all wearable shades and there's a good mix of matte and shimmers.

This was my least favourite of the two lipsticks, Free as a Butterfly, however it's still quite a pretty gold based nude shade. I would have loved the more pink based shade called Royal Ball too though.

I know I'm lucky to have gotten my hands on these products and a lot of people will have sadly missed out. There is another chance on the 17th of March though if you're interested. Debenhams will have stock online on this date.

Were you able to pick anything up from the Cinderella collection?

Blog sale!

I've added a few things to my blog sale and updated everything so it's easier to see what's left! If you fancy picking up a few bargains you can check out my blog sale here.

January & February Empties

Last year, I kept a lot of empty packaging with good intentions of letting you all know what I thought of the products. I failed quite spectacularly to be honest and ended up throwing all of this out. It was just getting ridiculous and I couldn't even remember half of the products anyway.

I've been saving some empties for the last few months so before it gets out of hand again, I thought I should put my thoughts out there!

I go through shower gel quite fast so I've got quite a few to mention here. The Body Shop Glazed Apple Shower Gel was such a lovely scented shower gel. It was just like Apple Sourz (the alcohol) and it was really enjoyable to use.

The Original Source Vanilla and Raspberry Shower Gel smells like strawberry milkshake! That's my favourite thing about this shower gel as unfortunately I find these shower gels a bit too thin so lots of product gets wasted and it doesn't lather as much as I would like. I still end up repurchasing these when they're on offer for a pound though as I enjoy the fragrances.

I picked up Rose Jam and So White from the Lush Christmas collection and had very opposite thoughts on these. I already knew that I love Rose Jam, it's the perfect rose scent with an added sweetness to it. I always find a little goes a long way with Lush shower gels so they do tend to last quite a while. This wasn't such an advantage when it came to using up the So White one though. To me, it really smelled like furniture polish so I just didn't enjoy using it. Disappointing!

The Ted Baker Body Wash was a small size from a gift I received for Christmas. It was quite a floral scented body wash which I found to be ok. Nothing too exciting if I'm honest. I wouldn't buy the full size version myself but it was pleasant enough.

I loved the coconut oil and cocoa butter scent of the Garnier Ultimate Blends Shampoo and Conditioner from The Sleek Restorer range for dry/frizzy hair. I don't have frizzy hair so didn't notice any changes to the condition of my hair but I thought these did a nice job at general cleansing and conditioning. I would try other Ultimate Blends ranges when they are on offer.

I got the Kerastase Lait Vital and Bain Satin samples from a British Beauty Blogger beauty box in collaboration with Latest in Beauty. I really enjoyed using these products. I felt they helped to improve the condition of my hair and left it feeling super soft. I think Jane has another box coming out soon so I'm looking forward to seeing what she puts in that one!

The Living Proof Restore Mask Treatment was a sample from a Space NK gift with purchase. This was quite a nice mask and I did feel like it made my hair feel nice and soft. I definitely wouldn't pay £35 for the full size though. As much as I liked it, I felt it wasn't massively different to a pot you could get for a fiver from Boots!

The Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water has become a staple in my routine. This is great for use all over the face and eye area. It does such a good job at removing makeup without irritating the skin. I was a regular buyer of the L'Oreal Paris version but since buying this, I haven't looked back because the bottle is much bigger and lasts for months!

The Elemis Soothing Apricot Toner is my all time favourite toner and I've repurchased it multiple times. This was just a sample size but it made me remember how much I like this stuff. It smells so nice and fruity and it helps to soothe my dehydrated skin before adding moisturiser.

I bought the Sephora Instant Refreshing Toner on a trip to Barcelona last year. As you can see, there's still product left in the bottle and I'm not bothered about throwing it away! I got bored of using it and thought it was quite an average product.

I really enjoyed using my sample of the ReVive Intense Creme Lustre Day Cream as it nourished my dehydrated skin really well. It also left my skin looking more radiant and I liked that it contains SPF30. I was just looking at the price of the full size to decide whether I'd repurchase it or not. It's £235. Simply put, I will never repurchase this! It is really good though...

The Goldfaden MD Doctor's Scrub is a scrub that contains lots of tiny, gritty particles that really slough off any dead skin cells and I felt this improved the texture of my skin while I was using it. The full size of this is £65 so I won't be repurchasing this but I wouldn't say no to another sample!

I managed to use up a few perfumes which made room for some of my new Christmas ones. First up, the Prada Candy L'Eau fragrance, one of my faves due to its very sweet but sophisticated scent. The original Prada Candy is my absolute favourite but this is still really nice.

Calvin Klein DownTown is such a lovely light and slightly floral scent. It just feels very refreshing to wear and I'm glad I discovered this one. I'd definitely get it again some time.

I love the original Ghost fragrance because it smells like Turkish Delight. I don't feel like I need to expand on that! I love it and I would happily buy/receive this again.

My favourite anti-perspirant is the Mitchum cream stick in Pure Fresh. I've repurchased this many times and it's the most effective anti-perspirant I've ever used and I love this fresh scent too.

I had a travel size version of the Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Body Scrub and whilst I love the scent, I wasn't too bothered about the actual scrub. It didn't contain enough scrubby bits to do much so I wouldn't buy this again.

I had to put the Lush Santa's Lip Scrub in this, despite it still being almost full but it was past the use by date and since I quite like to eat this stuff off my lips, I didn't want to keep it past that date! I stocked up on another whilst the Christmas stock was available though. All of the Lush Lip Scrubs are amazing at removing yucky dead skin from the lips but this cola one is particularly yummy. I do recommend the Popcorn and Bubblegum ones too though.

The only makeup item in my empties is the L'Oreal Paris Lumi Magique Highlighting Pen. I love the rose gold packaging and the peachy liquid is great on my dark circles. It doesn't provide a full coverage but it's great for when you fancy something quite low maintenance that still brightens things up a bit. I've had about 3 or 4 tubes of this in the past so I would pick it up again some time in the future.

Ahhh it feels good to get this done so I can throw all of those empty containers away!
Have you tried any of these products before?

Recent Drugstore Purchases

After a good month of not buying beauty products, I let myself loose in Boots and Superdrug and picked up a few goodies.

I spotted a Beige version of the L'Oreal Paris La Palette Nude that I hadn't seen mentioned on any blogs and I was quite excited by it. I prefer it to the rose version and I liked the swatches I did instore so decided to get it. At £14.99 it's a little more budget friendly than the YSL palette in my last blog post!

I've seen the Fifth Avenue shade of Essie Nail Polish pop up on a few blogs lately and I really fancied adding it to my collection. I've been really lazy with painting my nails so far this year, in fact I think I've only done it once! This will be the next one to grace my nails when I finally get round to painting them.

The L'Oreal Paris True Match Concealer has been on my radar for a little while so I decided it was time to pick that up. I'm under no illusion that it will come anywhere close to my trusty NARS concealer but hopefully it's a good'un.

I felt like I was missing out not having one of the L'Oreal Paris Colour Riche Red Collection lipsticks so I picked up my favourite of the bunch, the Julianne one.

I'd never seen any of the Leather Effect Maybelline Colour Tattoos before so I picked up the Creamy Beige shade. I wish we got all of the US releases! There seems to be a few swatch-less shades that I've never heard of on the Boots site but I don't want to order without knowing what they are like!

Since the recent release of the Max Factor Creme Puff Blush, I'd been desperate to swatch them but I only ended up picking one up. There were a few I liked but I decided to go for the most subtle one as I don't have much like it in my collection. I chose the Nude Mauve shade.

Since you got a free gift for spending over £15 on Max Factor (which I stupidly forgot to photograph the contents of!), I picked up another one of their Excess Shimmer cream eyeshadows since I love the Copper one so much. I chose Pink Opal, a gorgeous multi tonal lilac shade. I actually just remembered I have the green shade too but I haven't tried it yet!

The new Beach Blonde range by John Frieda looked really good so I picked up the Purifying Shampoo and Detangling Conditioner. They just sounded lovely and refreshing for my fine hair without drying it out. Can't wait to try these once I've finished my current shampoo and conditioner.

I replaced my almost empty Garnier Micellar Water with another bottle as it does the job for a good price. Nothing too exciting to mention here really!

Finally, I had to buy one of the new Aussie Body Washes as they smell just as divine as their hair products. I went for the Fresh Mate one that smells so fresh and fruity. In fact they all do, so no doubt I will get round to trying them all at some point.

It was a good feeling allowing myself to buy some nice new products!
What have you been treating yourself to lately?

YSL Couture Variation Palette in Nu

After a month or so without buying any makeup, I was given a Debenhams gift card so I knew I'd be spending it on beauty! I had a bit of a struggle trying to use it online so failed to buy the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette I was after.

I decided to pop into my local store instead and that's when I spotted this beauty! It's the YSL Couture Variation Palette. They had two variations. This one called 'Nu' and a more purple based one called 'Tuxedo' that they said was exclusive to Debenhams. This one was my favourite as the colours seemed so wearable and as soon as I swatched the buttery soft shadows, I NEEDED it!

There are a few matte shades along with shimmers. One or two have some small chunks of glitter too but nothing too OTT. I love this palette because I tend to wear light neutral shades as single wash of colour over the eyes for work and this is packed with them. You can create so many different looks with this palette though.

The pigmentation is really good on these shadows and the consistency is so smooth. I think this is great value at £49 considering I paid £42.50 for one of their 5 shade palettes last month! You even get a fairly decent double sided brush with this too.

What do you think of this palette?
