January & February Favourites 2015

Spring is here! Yay! That means it's time to tell you all about my favourite products from February. Since I didn't get round to doing a January Favourites, I thought I'd make this one a doubler.

I ran out of my Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel so I've been using The Body Shop Nutriganics Softening Cleansing Gel Oil. This costs £10 so it's obviously not as luxurious. There is no beautiful rose scent, well no real scent at all and it has a bit of a weird texture to begin with. It's almost like a thick honey texture but within seconds of massaging it into dry skin, it turns into an oil and a milk on contact with water. I've actually been liking this more than the Oskia one! Yay, £18 saving for me! It is more hydrating on my skin and doesn't leave any tight feeling on my skin at all. I was starting to get that feeling with the Oskia one. A few added bonuses to this product is that it is 98% natural and has no parabens or silicones.

I've discovered some fab new brushes over the last few months. The Real Techniques Bold Metals 200 Oval Shadow is brilliant for packaging eyeshadow on to the lid quickly and without having to go back over it lots of times. The 201 Pointed Crease was the brush I didn't realise I needed but won't be without now. I'm fairly rubbish at blending eyeshadows into the crease and all that jazz so when I used this I was amazed at how well I was able to do this. I haven't suddenly developed make up artistry skills but I can certainly do the job a whole lot better now!

The Zoeva 110 Face Shape brush is supposed to be for contouring but I've been using mine for buffing in concealer and it works extremely well with my NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer. It is the perfect size for getting around the eye and nose area where most of my concealing magic needs to happen. It's also great for buffing concealer over my pesky chin blemishes too. It gives a very flawless finish. I feel like the 102 Silk Finish is just a bigger version of the Face Shape so I've been loving it for buffing in my foundation. It gives a full coverage, flawless finish and makes blending in liquid foundation very quick and easy.

On days where I just want a little bit of coverage on my dark circles I've been using the YSL Touché Eclat Highlighting Pen in Shade 1. I know this is not supposed to be a concealer but I find the peachy tone does help to neutralise my dark circles a bit and I don't wear it on a night out where flash photography will turn me into a reverse racoon!

My new favourite pressed powder is the NARS Pressed Setting Powder in the shade Flesh. This helps to slightly mattify any shiny areas of my face without making it look flat or cakey. I love that you can buy it in a shade to match your skintone too.

The Max Factor Excess Shimmer in Copper has been on my eyelids for at least 75% of the time over the last two months. It's a gorgeous cream eyeshadow that stays put for hours but it's the shade I like best of all. It's not a copper whatsoever though. I'd describe it as more of an iced coffee shade. It's such a gorgeous colour that doesn't clash with my fair, cool toned skin. It's shimmery but it's perfectly acceptable for daytime wear and I love it.

I've been trying some of my newer Charlotte Tilbury products and have been loving them all but I've included my top picks in this post. The Light Wonder Youth Boosting Perfect Skin Foundation SPF15 is so good. It's quite a light to medium coverage foundation but it makes the skin look quite natural and dewy. It feels really lightweight on the skin, even if you build up a few layers to increase the coverage. I have the lightest shade Fair 01 and it's quite yellow toned so it works well to neutralise any redness I get when I'm a bit flushed!

I ventured out of my comfort zone with the K.I.S.S.I.N.G. Lipstick in Nude Kate as I don't think that nudes suit my porcelain skintone that well however I really enjoyed wearing this lipstick for a night out where I had quite a heavy smoky eye. It's quite brown toned but when you pair it with the Lip Lustre in Blondie I think it looks really pretty. The lipgloss has a lot of shimmer in it but it doesn't make you feel like a teenager, it looks really glamourous. The gloss has a nice non-sticky consistency too. You also feel like a million dollars when you take these out of your clutch bag to reapply throughout the night! The packaging is so glam.

The final product by Charlotte Tilbury is the Cheek to Chic Blusher in First Love. I predominantly go for pink or coral blush so I went for something different as this is quite neutral. It adds a gorgeous glow to the cheeks that doesn't overpower the rest of your look so it's great if you're going for a really bold eye or lip look that doesn't warrant a strong cheek but you still want a little something special going on. You can use either of the colours separately, mix them together or do the 'Swish and Pop' technique where you apply the outer colour in the area you would normally apply blush then add the centre colour as a pop of colour on the apples of your cheeks.

My final favourite had to be the wonderful book Fleur de Force has written called The Glam Guide. I'm a massive fan of Fleur de Force. I love her videos and I am always a bit envious of her life to be honest! She seems to have it all, the perfect career, husband, dogs, house etc! Fleur's book covers a good range of topics like beauty, style, fitness and other general lifestyle stuff like confidence. I think she's written this book so well. I read it with her voice in my head (that sounds creepy but hopefully you know what I mean!) and I didn't feel it was written for a really young audience like some of the other YouTuber books. She gives a lot of helpful advice and although I might have known a lot of it, it was still really interesting to read. The book is also very well designed and illustrated. I think she's done an amazing job and should be really proud of herself. It's good to see the success that is possible in the blogging/YouTube industry.

Hope you enjoyed reading about my favourites from the last two months.

  5. Zoeva brushes are amazing, I've had mine for almost a year now and they are still like brand new! x

  6. Some lovely products, I still really want to pick up the Zoeva brushes but just can't justify it at the moment.
I will be giving that Nutriganics cleanser a try, I love the Oskia one but again can't justify repurchasing such an expensive cleanser. Body shop often have discount codes so hopefully I can get even cheaper than a tenner. :) xxx

  9. I found it really hard to blend in crease line with the real techniques pointed crease brush. I like to use it on lower lash line to smudge eyeliner on a smokey eye xx
